Tuesday All Shook Up, Zanesville's Parkinson's Group receives recognition from Zanesville Mayor Tilton.
Zanesville Mayor Jeff Tilton proclaimed the month of April and September as Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month in Zanesville and surrounding areas. All Shook Up is a Parkinson's group that offers boxing, land and water aquatics exercises and support. All Shook Up President Amy Dunn said she is excited and proud about the proclamation. But she wants everyone to know not all people who suffer from Parkinson's disease have the same symptoms.
"We don't all shake. Even thought we are All Shook Up. Some of us are stiff. Some of us just have balance issues. A lot of us have brain issues and that's what people don't know. We may forget things. And we may not speak properly at times," said Dunn.
Dunn said the next thing on their agenda is to transport Parkinson's patients from Licking County to their facility here in Zanesville. Dunn said Licking County currently does not offer an exercise program. Dunn stressed the importance of exercise.
"It not only strengthens my body. It awaken my brain. I was losing my brain function quiet honestly before I started exercising," said Dunn.
"We want everybody to come out and enjoy this experience with us. You're going to learn. And once you come you'll never leave. You'll come back and exercise and be a friend forever," said All Shook Up Secretary Robert Swanson.
Dunn said without help of the Electrical Worker's Union Local 1105 and the Eagles of Zanesville All Shook Up would not have a place to exercise.
