State Rep. Diana DiZoglio |
BOSTON — State Rep. Diana DiZoglio, D-Methuen, recently welcomed advocates from the Merrimack Valley and across the commonwealth to the Statehouse for the latest meeting of the Legislature's Parkinson's Disease Caucus.
During that meeting, DiZoglio presented a resolution co-sponsored by 47 other legislators that proclaimed April to be Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month in Massachusetts.
The caucus, which DiZoglio launched last November, provides legislators an opportunity to learn more about Parkinson's and consider legislative steps to address the disease, which affects between 500,000 and 1.5 million people in the United States.
At the meeting were members of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Rock Steady Boxing, the National Parkinson Foundation, and the Massachusetts chapters of the Parkinson's Action Network (PAN) and the American Parkinson's Disease Association (APDA).
“Increased research, education and community support services are needed to find more effective treatments and to provide access to quality care to those living with Parkinson’s disease today,” DiZoglio said.
