On Saturday, April 16, the Parkinson's Disease Support Group of East Tennessee (PK Hope Is Alive) will hold its fifth annual fund-raising walk at Bissell Park at the Oak Ridge Civic Center. Registration at the Pavilion will start at 9 a.m., and the walk will take place between 10 a.m. and noon. To register or sponsor a walker, go to www.unitywalk.org. There is no set registration fee, but participants are encouraged to raise money to fund research to find a cure for Parkinson's Disease. The annual benefit run in Pigeon Forge for Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries scheduled for May 21 has added an 8K distance to the event. All registration fees will go directly to SMARM services. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at Auntie Belham's Cabin Rentals at Charlotte Court. Early registration (postmarked by May 13) is $25 for adults, $10 for children 10 and under, and free for ages 5 and under. Late registration is $30. Info: smarm.org or 865-908-3153.

The KiMe Fund is hosting its sixth annual Parkinson's "Shakin' Not Stirred" fundraiser from 7 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, April 23, at Fox Den Country Club in Farragut. This is a non-profit organization seeking to find a cure for Parkinson's and other neurological diseases. The Rotary Club of Turkey Creek — Sunset will hold a Texas Hold'em Tournament and Silent Auction on Friday, April 8, at SouthEast Bank, 12700 Kingston Pike. Tickets are available for the annual dinner and auction fundraiser of Kids First Child Advocacy Center of the Ninth Judicial District, which will start at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, at Bridgewater Place, 205 Bridgewater Road, Knoxville. Special guest speaker will be NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace. In Loudon County, Tuesday, April 12, is Dine Out for Education day, when 10 percent of your pre-tax total at participating restaurants will be donated to the Loudon County Education Foundation. Meadow View Garden Center will host a Garden Party starting at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, at Sun Dance Farms to benefit the Loudon County Education Foundation. The Alliance for Better Nonprofits is hosting a one-day conference on Board Excellence for nonprofit organizations on May 3. The conference is an opportunity for nonprofit board members and key nonprofit staff to explore best practices and network with the experts and community leaders committed to strengthening nonprofits. The keynote presentation will be delivered by Dr. Robin Hindsman Stacia, a nationally-recognized Standards for Excellence licensed consultant and Principal of Sage Consulting Network based in Atlanta.
