Twins wanted to solve the mystery of Parkinson’s disease

December 20, 2016

The monozygotic twins represent an extraordinary biological model to study the causes of Parkinson’s disease (PD)

For this reason the Grisons Foundation is funding a study of twin pairs in which at least one is suffering from Parkinson’s disease, parkinsonism, or similar syndromes. This is the first case in Italy of direct recruitment of the population and the aim is to discover the causes of the disease by studying and understanding the differences that have caused Parkinson’s disease in only one of the twins (or, in other cases, in both of them) who, from a genetic point of view, are identical.
