VERO BEACH — The Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County will host two educational conferences, back to back, in March.
On Wednesday, March 22, the organization will host the 12th Annual Day of Hope Caregiver Conference at the First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the program will start at 10 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m.
Linn Possell, certified master coach and lead mentor for “Positive Approach to Care," will be the keynote speaker. Possell is the author of “Alzheimer’s: A Beautiful Spirit Celebrated,” “Clergy Guide to Dementia,” and a children’s book entitled “A Heart Full of GEMS.”
On Thursday, March 23, the organization will host its Parkinson’s Conference, also at the First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the program will start at 10:30 a.m. and continue until 2:30 p.m. Guest speakers will be Chris Hass, Ph.D., who directs one of the most dynamic clinical research programs in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders in the country.
Alison Kraus, P.T., also will present at this conference. Kraus evaluates and treats a variety of movement disorders including Parkinson’s and Essential Tremors. Both Dr. Hass and Kraus are with the UF Center for Movement Disorders and Neurorestoration.
Cindy Bryant, owner of Indian River Publishers which publishes the "Guide to Medical Services," the "Guide to Senior Services," and "Heartbeat of the Treasure Coast," is volunteer chair of both conferences.
“I am proud to work with the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association to put together these two key educational conferences this year,” she said. “Informing and enlightening our community with programs that educate and enrich caregivers, health professionals and, overall, people who have memory and/or movement disorders is at the core of our mission. What a joy it is to bring these important learning opportunities to the community.”
The cost to attend each conference is $15 per person, which includes lunch. Please contact the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of IRC at 772-563-0505 for more information and to reserve a seat.
