April 3, 2017
Whether it's a fundraiser for Parkinson's research, a beer-themed chili cookoff or a chance to sample beers on First Friday, April is loaded with drink-themed events for those seeking a good time in York.
Shaken Not Stirred — April 30
Parkinson’s disease affects five million people worldwide and 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year. The disease was brought to the forefront by actor Michael J. Fox, who went public with his condition in 1998.
Since then, he’s set up The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, raising money to fund programs searching for a cure for Parkinson’s.
Later this month, the York-area can raise money for disease research by having dinner and drinks.
Shaken Not Stirred, a local fundraiser run by Working Progress and hosted by Tutoni’s Restaurant in York, will take place on April 30.
The event features signature cocktails created by Tutoni’s staff and named in honor of “celebrity shakers” with local ties.
For Kate Harmon, who co-owns Working Progress with Matthew Davis, and Tutoni’s co-owner Toni Calderone, the event holds special significance. Harmon’s father Bob Harmon and Calderone’s grandmother both have been diagnosed with the disease.
“I don’t want people just drinking The Birthday Boy (the drink named after her father),” Harmon said. “I want them to see me, see my dad and learn why this is so important.”
Sponsors are still needed for the event. If interested, email kate@letsmakeprogress.today.
If you go: The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 30. Tickets can be purchased at fundraise.michaeljfox.org/shakennotstirred. Cost for the event is as follows:
- $10 for entry and appetizers
- $20 for entry, appetizers and a cocktail shaker
- $75 for entry, appetizers, a cocktail shaker and a family-style dinner at Tutoni’s.
