In this brief video from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Dr. Maurizio Facheris talks about Parkinsonism and its relationship to Parkinson’s disease.
Parkinsonism is a medical term used to describe symptoms which could be attributed to Parkinson’s disease. Typically, these would be tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia (slowed movements). However, not all patients who present these symptoms will have Parkinson’s disease.
Anyone experiencing Parkinsonisms should see their doctor to be tested for Parkinson’s disease but the symptoms could also be due to other health issues such as vascular disorder, head trauma, other neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis, or a side effect of a drug, medication, or toxin.
