Alzheimer group to host conferences in February

VERO BEACH -– The Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County will host two educational conferences in late February.
On Feb. 22 the organization will host its “Day of Hope” caregiver conference at the First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the program will run from 10 am. to 2 p.m.
Dr. Visa Srinivasan, a geriatrician from the Health First Aging Institute in Melbourne will be the keynote speaker in the morning. In the afternoon, Pat DeAngelis from the East Central Florida Memory Disorder Clinic will provide communication techniques for caregivers.
On Feb. 23 the organization will host its Parkinson’s Conference, also at the First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the program will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Guest speakers include Rebecca Hahessy from the American Parkinson Disease Association, South Florida Chapter, who will offer tips on advocating for yourself in the hospital.

In the afternoon, Dr. Nisha Chhabria from the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center in Boca Raton, will speak about the latest in medical advancements for people with movement disorders.

Cindy Bryant, owner of Indian River Publishers which publishes the Guide to Medical Services, the Guide to Senior Services, and Heartbeat of the Treasure Coast, is volunteer chair of both conferences.
“I am proud to work with the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association to put together these two key educational conferences this year,” she said. “Informing and enlightening our community with programs that educate and enrich caregivers, health professionals and, overall, people who have memory and/or movement disorders is at the core of our mission.”
The cost to attend each conference is $15 per person which includes lunch.
