BELFAST — Representatives of the Waldo County General Hospital Speech Department will discuss changes in cognitive and swallow functions at the March meeting of the Parkinson's Support Group.
The free presentation is open to any person with Parkinson's Disease, family members, friends and interested community members. It takes place Wednesday, March 14, from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. in the Home Health and Hospice Conference Room, 125 Northport Ave., Suite 106, opposite the hospital.
The speech department will cover what to expect when swallowing and cognitive changes occur, compensating strategies, and benefits of cognitive therapy to maximize cognitive functioning and independence with activities of daily living.
This presentation will also help participants identify signs and symptoms of swallowing difficulties, options for evaluating swallow function, and how best to maintain swallow function for meeting hydration and nutritional needs.
