Sanatoga Ridge to host Parkinson's seminar

It will be held Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at 2461 E. High St. near Pottstown.




"Let's Talk Parkinson's Disease: Overview and Treatments" is the topic of a free seminar Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Sanatoga Ridge at 2461 E. High St. near Pottstown.
It is estimated that 600,000 to 1 million people are living with Parkinson's disease, making it one of the most common brain diseases.
The speakers will include Dr. Marta Jimenez from Tri-County Neurology; Melissa Yates, a representative for Medtronic Neuromodulation/Deep Brain Stimulation; and Linda Detwiler, the director of Chestnut Knoll At Home.
The experts will discuss the disease, state-of-the-art treatment options and resources available to assist with care at home. Light refreshments will be available.

Diakon Adoption & Foster Care has two free informational sessions planned on adoption and child and youth foster care:
Feb. 20, 6 p.m., Manatawny Manor, 30 Old Schuylkill Road, Pottstown.
March 8, 6 p.m., The Lutheran Home at Topton, 1 S. Home Ave., Topton.
Diakon staff will explain foster parenting as well as the processes involved in adopting or fostering-to-adopt a child or youth.

The Amity Township Crime Watch monthly meeting is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 548 Old Swede Road, Douglassville.
Township police will share information about skimming devices and counterfeit currency.
All residents are welcome.
A lecture and demonstration of the maple sugaring process is Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. at Angora Fruit Farm, Alsace Township.
In "Maple Sugaring 101" see a sugar maple tree tapped, and taste the sap from the tree. Then watch the process of boiling the sap to attain the right consistency for syrup. And of course taste the final product on pancakes, comparing that syrup with the store-bought variety.

Mary Kane will talk about her current one-woman show at the Boyer Gallery of The Hill School on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the gallery, 766 Beech St.
Kane began painting at an early age, always loving the patterns she saw in nature and thinking outside the box. She studied at Ohio State, Virginia Commonwealth University and American University.
After teaching art in public and private schools, she moved to Philadelphia to continue her art studies, add experience and gain confidence in painting while moving from realism to abstraction.
