More and more research suggests that dancing and exercise can slow down the progression of Parkinson's.
Dance can improve quality of life, balance, gait and postural stability for those affected by Parkinson's. Ascendance offers classes specifically designed to be manageable for those at all stages of the illness.
Whether it's a waltz, a ceilidh, or a hand jive, there are ways that instructor Rachel Wesson can adapt the movements to allow anybody to take part.
After her own mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's, Rachel became involved in the world of dancing for Parkinsons, and now runs classes in Otley, Pudsey, Saltaire and Meanwood.
Stray FM's Ben Franklin visited Otley Courthouse to learn a waltz with the class.
