MONROE, Mich. (WTVG) - Jennifer Traver of Monroe Michigan was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson's disease at the age of 42.
"It stopped me dead in my tracks but I decided I could either do something about it or I could wallow in it, and I decided I needed to make a difference," says Traver.
Shortly after being diagnosed, Traver realized there was no support group in Monroe for people living with Parkinson's, so she started her own.
Five years later, the non-profit organization "Shakin' Not Stirred" has raised over $95,000 to find a cure for Parkinson's disease.
The fourth annual poker run today had 44 bikers, riding all over Michigan to collect their cards and make it back to The Clamdiggers lounge & pizzeria in Monroe, Michigan.
The rider with the best hand and the winner of the fifty-fifty drawing both decided to give proceeds back to "Shakin' Not Stirred"
Traver and the support group also host a large bowling tournament fundraiser every Spring.
Their next initiative is to create an exercise group, as it helps slow down the progression of the disease.
