Popular Dutch singer Rob de Nijs (76), who was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, will stop performing, the Telegraaf reports.

De Nijs’ 60 year career took off in 1963 with his hit single Ritme van de Regen , followed by many others. His biggest hit was Banger Hart which went to number one in the Mega Top 50 in 1996 and was the only number one hit of his career.

Images of De Nijs falling off the stage during a performance in Naaldwijk were quickly shared on social media  and De Nijs was accused of being drunk. ‘These terrible reactions hit my family and others around me hard,’ the singer said. ‘I have never in my life performed while drunk.

We were only just told what was happening, no one else knew,’ De Nijs told the paper. De Nijs is going to finish his current tour and is planning a farewell tour and new cd next year.
