A Year on from Duodopa Success

  • A year ago, NHS in England announced they would fund Duodopa, a life-changing drug for people with advanced Parkinson's.
This was largely down to people affected by Parkinson's, our Campaigns Network and professionals campaigning to ensure NHS England made this drug was available.

    It's important to get involved

Rod Norman, a person with Parkinson's who supported our campaigning activity told us:
It's so important that people with Parkinson's roll up their sleeves and get stuck in!
Rod Norman, a person with Parkinson's
"Duodopa was my last resort, I had tried everything else.
I spoke to my MP about the need to fund the drug. He was very supporting and wrote to the Secretary of State for health on my behalf.
I enjoyed being a small part of the team to get this great result."

    Duodopa campaigning continues

Campaigning has continued this year with the Parkinson's UK team working alongside people with Parkinson's and their families to persuade the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) to make Duodopa available in Scotland.
We found out in early June 2016 that our campaign had been successful.
The SMC said that the people with Parkinson's they heard from had a big impact on their decision.

    Campaigning for positive changes

Campaigning is about making positive change and at Parkinson's UK we cover a range of issues.
Whether you want a Parkinson's nurse in your local area, better social care provision, or a fairer benefits assessments, you can work with us to make these changes a reality.
You can do as much or as little as you want – and every action will help us achieve our goals to improve life for everyone with Parkinson’s.
It's easy to get involved with the campaigns we run. Just join our campaigns network and you'll get one email a month updating you on our campaigns and how you can take part.
We hope to campaign with you soon for positive change!
