Boston Conference in April Coincides With Parkinson’s Awareness Month

APRIL 5, 2018 BY CAROLINA HENRIQUES IN NEWS.

The Parkinson and Movement Disorder Alliance, a U.S. non-profit organization, is presenting its first  Learn. Live. Connect. Parkinson’s Conference on April 27 in Boston, Massachusetts, to give those living with Parkinson’s disease an opportunity to hear from experts about symptoms, therapies and research.
PMDAlliance works to improve the everyday lives of Parkinson’s patients through education and support.
According to a press release, the conference will include presentations from nationally recognized neurologists and movement disorder specialists David Shprecher, DO, and Laxman Bahroo, DO, who will talk about motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s and treatments to address them.
The conference is free of charge and will take place at the Embassy Suites Logan Airport, 207 Porter St. The program starts at 9 a.m. and includes an exercise component in addition to a Q&A session with Shprecher and Bahroo. Edie Simpson, CNRN, also will talk about safely navigating hospitalization.
Shprecher is a neurologist and movement disorder specialist based in Phoenix, Arizona, and director of Banner Sun Health Research Institute’s movement disorders program. Inspired by his personal experience with Tourette’s syndrome, Shprecher has dedicated his career to improve treatment options and quality of life for his patients.
Bahroo also is a neurologist and movement disorder specialist currently serving as the director of both the Neurology Residency Program and Botulinum Toxin Clinic at Georgetown University Hospital, in Washington, D.C. He is an associate professor in the university’s department of neurology and his main areas of interest include the medical and surgical management of Parkinson’s disease.
PMDAlliance also has additional events in April, which is Parkinson’s Awareness Month. On April 9 the organization will host a small Live it Up! event in Phoenix, Arizona, where Shprecher also will be present, and on April 1415 there will be a Renew! Retreat in Tucson.
After the conference, May 10-11, the organization will hold two Support Group Leader Conference and Consortium events: one in Tempe, Arizona, and a similar event in Orlando, Florida, May 17-18.
This summer, PMDAlliance will host a Connect! Workshop for patients, friends and families of people with Parkinson’s disease in Phoenix Aug. 24-25.
