Giant tulip at Blue Cross Blue Shield puts focus on Parkinson's disease

A giant tulip is lighting up Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's headquarters at 600 Lafayette in downtown Detroit this month to highlight awareness of Parkinson's disease.
The tulip been associated with Parkinson’s awareness since the early 1980s, according to Parkinson's News Today website, a news and information website about the disease.
In Michigan alone, there are more than 25,000 people living with Parkinson’s and 1 million nationwide, according to the insurer. 
Blue Cross is teaming up with the Michigan Parkinson’s Foundation and the Kirk Gibson Foundation in a yearlong partnership to raise awareness, provide information, resources and support.
In addition, the organization is hosting a fundraiser, the "Everybody vs. Parkinson’s” gala, from 6 p.m. to midnight Oct. 19 at the Motor City Casino. Go here for more information: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/everybody-vs-parkinsons-tickets-57329577309
The tulip will remain on display until May 8.
