The cells are used to transmit messages from the brain to the nervous system. Parkinson’s symptoms tend to develop slowly over a long period of time, and only appear as mild at first. You could be at risk of the neurodegenerative condition if you’ve suddenly lost your sense of smell, it’s been claimed.

will not develop Parkinson's,

While there may be a number of reasons for losing your sense of smell, it could be caused by the brain condition, it said.
The symptom may be caused by clumps of protein in the olfactory bulb - part of the brain that controls your sense of smell, it added.
“While most people with a reduced sense of smell will not develop Parkinson's, the majority of Parkinson's disease patients do have reduced sense of smell.
“Loss of sense of smell is often overlooked by diagnosing physicians as an early sign of Parkinson’s disease.
