A nine-year-old Hampton boy is completing a gruelling 84 mile Hadrian's Wall hike for his grandma who has Parkinson's

October 6, 2017

A nine-year-old boy from Hampton is walking the entire 84 mile stretch of Hadrian’s Wall in honour of his grandma.
George Marsh decided to help his grandma who has Parkinson’s disease by raising money for Parkinson’s UK
He will be spending his half term doing the sponsored walk from October 15 and has already raised £2,500.
His proud Dad, Rob Marsh said: “George has become increasingly aware of my mum’s condition in the past 12 months and is conscious of the ultimate consequences of Parkinson’s disease.

“While it has taken him time to digest this knowledge and, of course, saddened him greatly, none of us had anticipated quite such a positive response.
“George has really thrown himself into this challenge and made his Nana, and all of us close to him, exceptionally proud.”
George said: “My Nana has Parkinson's disease and this makes me very sad.
“In my half term holiday in October, I am going to walk Hadrian's wall, from one end to the other.
“I am bringing my Daddy with me to help. I think this will be very hard but I will try my best to do it.”
George has been training on walks with his family recently and was surprised by the interest of passers-by.
A sponsor who he met on his last walk, near Kew sent him a card in the post with this touching message: “It was a great honour to meet you and realise how passionate a young man can be about such a good cause.”
He also held a cake sale on the driveway and was amazed at the response and the donations from kind-hearted strangers.
