Lily Fielding and the Fielding family of Bethlehem Township will host the third annual Jim's Jog, a 5K Run/Walk for Parkinson's Research, at Spruce Run Recreation Area on Sept. 10, as members of Team Fox, benefitting The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF).
Fielding's 2014 and 2015 events were very successful, together raising more than $20,000 for MJFF. This year, she and her family aim to raise $10,000 or more to enable the foundation to continue aggressively funding research to find better treatments and a cure for Parkinson's disease.
This year, the event will once again be a 5K Run/Walk from which all proceeds will go directly to MJFF. The 5K will take place at Spruce Run Recreation Area, 68 Van Syckels Road, Clinton,on Saturday, Sept. 10, with registration and packet pickup beginning at 9 a.m. The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages – whether you are a serious runner or you've never done a 5K in your life, please come join us and participate in a fun family event while making a difference for charity. Prizes will be available to both runners and walkers.

"I chose to organize this event as part of Team Fox because I was deeply affected by watching my grandfather slowly deteriorate during his struggle with Parkinson's disease. His passing in April 2014 was devastating for me, as well as my entire family, and I immediately knew that I needed to do something to honor his memory and create a legacy for him. My Pop-Pop was more than his disease – he was a beloved father and grandfather, a dog lover, a WWII veteran, an avid tennis player, and so much more. He deserves to be remembered and I felt that raising money for a charity that was so dear to his heart would be a wonderful way to do that. I think it is extremely important to help further the Foundation's mission and raise awareness about Parkinson's."
"MJFF is funding cutting-edge research to bring meaningful advances in treatments and eventually a cure to people affected by this disease. I'm so pleased to be able to be a part of something so amazing, and I know that my grandfather would be very proud. I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for our past two events, and hope for a similar turnout this year. I truly love the energy at Jim's Jog, and think the event is a great day," said Lily Fielding.
More than five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease, a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder whose symptoms typically progress from mild tremors to complete physical incapacitation. In the United States, an estimated 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known cure for Parkinson's disease. Current treatments mask symptoms but do not alter or slow disease progression.
Team Fox started in 2006 as the community fundraising division of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (www.michaeljfox.org). A global program, Team Fox is comprised of over 6,000 members who have raised more than $27 million toward accelerating a cure for Parkinson's disease and improved therapies for those living with the condition today.
