Central Coast Voices: Understanding Parkinson’s

By KRIS KINGTON-BARKER • August 27, 2019

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative brain disorder. Nearly one million people will be living with Parkinson's disease (PD) in the U.S. by 2020, which is reported to be more than the number of people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and Lou Gehrig's disease combined. It is estimated that 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with PD each year.

Currently, more than 10 million people worldwide are living with PD. The disease affects each patient differently and the symptoms can change from day to day. There is currently no cure for the disease, but there are many treatment options for patients.

Join Kris Kington Barker as she speaks with Barrie Cleveland and Pricilla Mikesell, board members with the Central Coast Parkinson’s Association, as well as individuals living with the disease and Maria Allen, a physical therapist specializing in PD on the Central Coast as they discuss what Parkinson’s is, and talk about the latest information on research and therapies

Broadcast date: 8/29/2019
