WPC 2016 People’s Choice Award: Make Your Vote Count

Voting for the WPC 2016 People's Choice Award for best video that captures life with Parkinson's disease opens July 11th.

 NEW YORK, NY (PRWEB)
The World Parkinson Coalition® is proud to announce voting for the WPC 2016 People’s Choice Award for best video, which captures, inspires, and moves hearts when portraying living with Parkinson’s disease. Voting runs from July 11 through July 22. A panel of illustrious judges are hard at work whittling down to the Top 12 Videos from a pool of 75 entries from 20 countries.

The judges will make their selection for Grand Prize winner; the people will choose theirs. Both top videos will be kept secret until the 4th World Parkinson Congress Opening Ceremony on Tuesday September 20 in Portland, Oregon where over 3,000 delegates will see the winning videos for the first time.
“At the World Parkinson Coalition, we understand the power of video messages,” states Elizabeth (Eli) Pollard, executive director, World Parkinson Coalition. “From the initial competition held at the World Parkinson Congress in 2010 to the one that followed in 2013, we’ve learned that the Parkinson’s community enthusiastically embraces this medium to communicate and educate, and as a result of their engagement, we have made it an integral part of our triennial Congresses.”
In addition to the WPC 2016 People’s Choice Award and the Grand Prize winners, the judges will select first prize and second prize winners from two categories, professionally produced videos and videos by amateurs.
“Video is a great way to capture and share the power of science, hope, humor, and inspiration,” adds Pollard. “It's also a great way to encourage discourse about a disease that is often misunderstood.”
Each of the 11 judges is connected to Parkinson’s disease, whether a researcher, a movement disorder specialist, care partner, friend or someone who lives with the disease. They include Oscar-nominated, Emmy and Peabody Award-winning documentary filmmaker Irene Brodsky of the US, Daniel Bissonette, Canada, director, Montreal Film and Television Commission and last Congress’ winner of both the Grand Prize and WPC People’s Choice Award, hailing from New Zealand, Andy McDowell, for his visualized poem, “Smaller.” As he will tell you, “Parkinson’s may have made me smaller, but I’ve still got a lot to do."
The judges will have their say, and the people will have theirs too. For more information about where to vote for the WPC 2016 People Choice Award and to view all 75 submissions to the WPC Video Competition, please visit http://www.wpc2016.org/VideoCompetition.
About the World Parkinson Coalition® and WPC 2016
The World Parkinson Coalition Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides an international forum for learning about the latest scientific discoveries, medical practices, care partner initiatives and advocacy work related to Parkinson's disease. The World Parkinson Coalition® launched the first Congress in 2006 to provide a space for the global Parkinson’s community of researchers, clinicians, health care professionals, people with Parkinson’s and their care partners to meet in person, network and to share advances in Parkinson’s research, improve understanding and promote advocacy worldwide, and to potentially shape future research, treatment and care.

From its modest beginning to nearly 10,000 delegates who have participated in the previous triennial Congresses, the WPC 2016 is expected to attract about 4,000 delegates. To learn more about the 4th World Parkinson Congress, please visit http://www.wpc2016.org.
