Avera Queen of Peace Hospital to host advocate for patients with Parkinson's Disease

Aug. 4, 2016

Patients diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, their caregivers, and health care workers are invited to a special event at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Patient advocate Cathy DeLave, RN, BSN, will be speaking in the hospital's Community Room at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15. DeLave, a special guest of the Avera Queen of Peace Parkinson's Disease Support Group, is an advocate with the AbbVie Parkinson's Disease Advocate Program.

AbbVie is a no-cost program available to patients diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and those who help care for them. An AbbVie Parkinson's Advocate can:
• Educate patients about their disease and what they might expect during their journey
• Support patients with their concerns
• Prepare patients for meaningful conversations with their doctors
• Help identify resources, including a Movement Disorder Specialist, who focuses on the treatment of Parkinson's Disease
• Share the benefits of a holistic care team, for example, how a speech therapist can help as the disease progresses
"Avera Queen of Peace is thrilled to be hosting Cathy DeLave. Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been living with Parkinson's Disease for many years, the free AbbVie Advocate Program can help you learn more about your disease, how to find resources to help you live with the disease, and identify a team of health care professionals to help you manage your disease progression," said Pat Sudbeck, RN, facilitator of the Avera Queen of Peace Parkinson's Disease Support Group.
Registration is not required for this event, and refreshments will be served.
