High heeled Shaun’s wheelie charity boost

Aug. 17, 2016

HOUSEHOLDERS did a double take when Shaun Moon turned up to clean their wheelie bins in York wearing a long blonde wig and dressed in a skirt and high heels.
Shaun’s wheelie unusual drag act, which took place in streets across the Tang Hall Lane area yesterday, helped widow Anne Dodsworth raise hundreds of pounds for research into Parkinson’s Disease and support for sufferers of the condition.
Shaun said he decided on his whacky stunt when he was at Tang Hall Working Men’s Club recently and Anne, of Temple Avenue, whose husband Terry died of the illness in April 2, was raising money for the Parkinson’s UK through a raffle.
He said he knew Terry and Ann, and decided to help the fundraising by taking to the microphone and announcing that he would do his wheelie bin cleaning round for one day in high heels if people increased the total amount raised to £200.
Eventually people started handing over fivers and tenners and Ann ended up collecting about £350, and he decided to go the whole hog and spend a whole day in full drag.
“I have had some stares and funny looks,” said Shaun, who runs the business JWS (Jet Washing Service).
“”I’ve also had people making donations for the charity today when they heard why I am doing it.”
He said he wore a skirt and off the shoulder top and four inch wedge heels, given to him by a friend, Sarah Bell, and he already had the wig from a previous occasion when he had been impersonating singer Lady Gaga.
Anne said the charity had been ‘absolutely tremendous’ after her husband had fallen ill with Parkinson’s Disease and also dementia.
She said she wanted to help it prevent other people suffering the illness and give assistance to those who fell ill.
“It’s a very good charity,” she said. “They provide nurses, financial help, verbal support and research into the condition.
“They gave us so much help. I am so grateful for everything they did and wanted to raise funds for them to thank them.
“It started after the collection at Terry’s funeral raised £850 for the charity and I thought I would try to raise it to £900 and it just took off. She said Terry’s niece Marie Dodsworth had also raised £500 by running in the recent York 10k.
