Peel to host walks in support of people living with Parkinson’s

By Brampton GuardianBy Norman Khalil

Aug. 21, 2016
Peel residents will join more than 10,000 heroes from across the country to participate in this year’s SuperWalk to support people living with Parkinson’s and raise funds for research into improving treatments and finding a cure.
The 26th annual Parkinson SuperWalk will take place in communities from coast-to-coast on Saturday, Sept. 10.
In Peel, the first event will be held at Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre (4141 Living Arts Dr.) at 9:30 a.m., while the second walk will begin at Brampton’s South Fletcher's Sportsplex (500 Ray Lawson Blvd.) at 11 a.m. Check-in times for both 5K run/walks are 9:30 a.m.
Parkinson’s is a disease of the brain that affects movement, mood, speech, ability to smell, eating and drinking, sleep and cognitive abilities. It worsens over time, affecting a person’s independence through increasing disability, and can result in premature death.
Since 1981, the Parkinson SuperWalk has raised more than $34 million.
