A CHARITY golf day in Chipping Sodbury has raised more than £3,500 towards combatting Parkinson’s disease.
More than 130 people attended the event at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club on Friday, September 9, with everyone taking part in teams of four for a “Bow Maker” competition, as well as a lunch and raffle.
The charity golf day is the third organised by the club’s former captain Steve Taylor to raise money and awareness for research into Parkinson’s, with proceeds going towards studies at Bristol University.
Iron Acton-based golfer Steve, who has been a member of the club for 31 years, and was himself diagnosed with the condition nine-years-ago, said: “It was tremendous day which was very well supported by golfers and local businesses to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and raise much needed funds for research into this unpleasant illness.  Many thanks to everyone who helped on the day.”
Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall, who helped tee-off to open the event, said: “Steve has shown real courage and determination in the face of his diagnosis 9 years ago. I was delighted to go along and show my support for such a great cause.
“It is warming to see so many people turn out to support Steve and to raise money toward research of the condition”
