Parkinson’s disease patients in part of the North West will soon have access to a new, community-based specialist nurse to enhance services already delivered by hospital staff.

Gill Carter has been appointed as the Parkinson’s lead nurse in the community for the South Cheshire and Vale Royal areas.
“I am excited about this role and looking forward to the challenges it brings”

South Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group and Vale Royal Clinical Commissioning Group are working closely with Parkinson’s UK, local groups and Ms Carter to develop her role.
The new nurse post is being funded by Parkinson’s UK for an initial two-year period, alongside £40,000 raised by the charity’s Crewe and District branch over the last 20 years. With the commitment of NHS South Cheshire CCG and NHS Vale Royal CCG to continue funding at the end of the two-year period, the charity said it was assured the service will “go on to support many more people diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the years to come”.
Marion Rogers, Parkinson’s UK area development manager for Cheshire said: “It’s vital that people with Parkinson’s living in Cheshire have access to specialist knowledge and support.
“Whilst in its early stages, Gill will spend the next two years developing the service so that ultimately everyone with a Parkinson’s diagnosis with a GP in the area is able to access her support,” she said.Gill Carter, Parkinson’s specialist nurse said: “Having worked with people with multiple sclerosis for the last seven and a half years, I was keen to remain working with people with neurological conditions. I am excited about this role and looking forward to the challenges it brings.”
