If there is one cause close to Surjit Saha of 'Badi Door Se Aaye Hai' fame, it is spreading awareness about Parkinson's disease. The actor, through his friends, came to know of a rather innovative and interesting way people suffering with the disease can be helped. He even supports an initiative started by contemporary and classical dancer and choreographer Hrishikesh Pawar, 33, who treats people with Parkinson's disease since 2009. Pawar conducts hour-long classes thrice a week with 21 participants. Along with two assistants, he starts his session with basic exercises, and move on to Kathak Mudras and the essentials of choreography. The dance technique helps improve flexibility.
While this approach has helped people, it's interesting to know that Hrishikesh doesn't charge people for it. He says, "We have been running this program since 2009 and as on today our monthly expenses are around Rs 12,000 which includes the studio rent on an hourly basis, the props that we use during the dance movement and instructor fees among a few other things. Although we do manage to receive some funds, but those are few and far." To overcome that, Hrishikesh's 'Centre Of Contemporary Dance' has received help from Foto Phactory by Vaibhav Bhoj and Surjit Saha (actor) so that they can continue to run this program for at least the next one year without facing any financial burden. They have also come up with a calendar titled 'Rise — 2017'. Amit Karanjawala, founder & MD at iProgrammer says about the calendar, "We know Hrishikesh for a while and have always appreciated and supported his cause. This time we thought of doing something different where people could also get value for their donations. Hence we have come up with a calendar."
Surjit says, "I just came to know about Hrishikesh and his institute few months back when Vaibhav and Amit approached me and was planning for this calendar. I felt the idea was quite noble and for a noble cause so I didn't have any second thought and if I could help somebody with whatever means I can then why not."
Well, we're glad that Surjit is taking up this initiative and hope that more actors follow suit!
