Young Paramus Guitarist Performing In England For Springsteen Charity Concert

By January 5, 2017

Jake Thistle will play at The Hind to help benefit the Light of Day foundation, which helps people with Parkinson's Disease and ALS.

PARAMUS, N.J. — Jake Thistle's reputation as a guitar player has grown to the point that he will play in England in support of a foundation that helps people with ALS and Parkinson's Disease.
The 12-year-old Thistle will perform at The Hind, a historic hotel in England, later on this month as part of a Springsteen Weekend festival that will help benefit the Light of Day Foundation, a nonprofit that works to help find a cure for ALS and Parkinson's Disease. Bruce Springsteen has worked with the nonprofit for years.
Thistle is a self-taught guitar player. He has been playing guitar since he was a young child and performs at Kilwins in Ridgewood on Saturday nights. He is a huge fan of Tom Petty.
"I'm really excited," Thistle said. "To be able to play in England is a dream come true, for sure, but then to play and raise money for an organization like the Light of Day Foundation, that's even better."
Petty is aware that Thistle is huge fan and gave him a signed album along with two front-row tickets to his upcoming 40th anniversary show.
he England gig is not the first time Thistle has used his talent to help others. He raised $4,000 at a Kilwins gig for Rock The Dogs, a nonprofit Mike Campbell runs to help shelter dogs. Campbell is the lead guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Thistle also played at the ACS Golf Classic and the ACS Diamond ball and raised more than $4,000 for them.
Thistle also played a private party at Radio City Music Hall with the Rockettes. He will play a preview set of what he will play in England at Jiggs' Music Saloon in Butler Saturday.
"A lot of people have bought tickets just to see his portion of the show, which was really interesting to see," Thistle's father, Greg said. "Jake has never been to England, but always wanted to go — and to get paid to go play music is a dream come true for him."
