Workout program designed for those with Parkinson's Disease

A new workout program is coming to Weirton, and its goal is to benefit people with Parkinson's Disease.
Rock Steady Boxing was founded 12 years ago by an individual with Parkinson's. He noticed his moves in a boxing gym were helping his symptoms.
The workout program works to improve mobility, strength, range of motion, and overall quality of life.
Rock Steady Boxing coach Holley Faulkner says he's already had a lot of positive response from Parkinson's patients throughout the community.
“People are surprised when they hear it's a boxing class,” he said. “There are no Parkinson's patients in my class, they're all boxers, that's the mentality. We do other exercises, stretching, muscle toning, coordination and balance, but yeah we have a heavy bag, a speed bag, standard boxing equipment. They wear boxing gloves and get after it.”
The first Rock Steady Boxing class is Oct. 16 at the Millsop Community Center.
For more information on the class, click here, or call (304) 797-8520.
