Monthly Evenings with Genetics seminar to focus on Parkinson’s in January

(713) 798-4710
Houston, TX -
The next installment of Evenings with Genetics will focus on Parkinson’s disease, with expert speakers providing an overview of treatment for the disease, along with future directions in care, particularly in developing effective, personalized treatment plans with the help of genetic information.
Evenings with Genetics is a monthly series that offers current information regarding care, education and research as they relate to genetic disorders. Sponsored by Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, the seminar series encourages networking within the community and connecting patients and their families with others in similar situations.
Dr. Laurie A. Robak, clinical instructor in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor, and Dr. Joshua M. Shulman, assistant professor of neurology, neuroscience, and molecular and human genetics at Baylor, will lead the discussion about the role genetics plays in the treatment of Parkinson’s and how it is changing the way the disease is treated/ They will be joined by a special guest speaker, a patient with Parkinson’s.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to educate our community about Parkinson’s disease, including our hopefulness regarding how improvements in our genetic understanding may positively impact patient care in the coming years,” said Shulman.

The program is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The seminar will be held at the Children’s Museum of Houston, 1500 Binz St., 77004.
