In collaboration with the North Shore's Parkinson's Fitness organization, and thanks to a generous grant from MountainOne Bank, the Danvers YMCA will offer a free movement program for people living with Parkinson's disease from 1 to 2 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 24, at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 124 River Road, Topsfield.

The classes will include a series of seated and standing exercises - sometimes using props such as balls, dowels and balance pads - to promote strength, flexibility and balance. Participants are given tools through rhythm, dance and movement sequences that help improve agility and the mobility issues associated with Parkinson's. The classes will also incorporate movement games, vocal and facial exercises and a variety of music.

The classes will be taught by Dianna Daly. Along with a fine arts and performance background, Daly has taught Pilates, dance and yoga and currently specializes in teaching the Parkinson's Fitness movement programs. As a Wertheimer Fellow of the Mark Morris Dance for PD program in Brooklyn, New York, Daly has had ongoing training with movement specialists from around the world.
