The 57-year-old actor, who went public with his condition in 1998, gave a candid interview to CBS as he updated fans on his condition.

While Michael was diagnosed at the age of just 29, only one in 10 people with Parkinson’s develop the condition young, with it mostly occurring late in life.
Parkinson’s is a long-term degenerative disorder of the central nervous system which mainly affects the motor system.

“As happy-go-lucky as I seem to be and as at ease with this as I seem to be, I mean, it sucks,” he said. “I hate it!”

I don’t know that we'll find a cure in the next 20 years

“I wish I wasn’t in this situation, but it’s been one of the great gifts of my life that I’ve been in the position to take my view of the suckitude of it and merge it with other people’s view of the suckitude of it and try to find an answer,” he added.
In 2000, Michael formed an organisation to raise money to fund research aimed at improving treatments to slow, stop and reverse the progression of Parkinson’s, with the hope of one day finding a cure.

According to the broadcaster, he has since raised over $800 million from private donations.

Speaking about his views on the future, he told the broadcaster he sees a breakthrough for Parkinson’s, although he doesn’t expect a cure in his lifetime.

“The idea of finding a ‘eureka!' moment and then the thing that cures it, I don’t know that that’ll happen in the next 20 years,” he said. “But I do think we’ll have therapies where it’s a vast improved quality of life for people with Parkinson’s.”

Michael is a multi-award-winning actor and his illustrious career boasts four Golden Globe Awards, two SAG Awards and five Emmys.
