Donna Bruno shows two Parkinson’s quilts that she made.

June 19, 2016
HARWINTON >> The Hearthside Quilters Guild of Harwinton held its last meeting before summer break, a very enjoyable ice cream social, on Thursday, June 16.
At the meeting, co-president Donna Bruno presented 25 handmade quilts to Susan Pelchat of Torrington, representing the Torrington Area Parkinson’s Support Group. The quilts are part of an ongoing project to support local people who suffer from this illness.
The Hearthside Quilters also makes quilts and pillowcases for The Hole in the Wall Camp and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. The group meets the third Thursday of each month at the Harwinton Senior Center, 209 Weingart Rd., Harwinton beginning in September. For more information, contact Donna Bruno at 860 489-7158.
The Torrington Area Parkinson’s Support Group meets on the fourth Saturday of each month at the Torrington Senior Center for education, exercise, and patient and caregiver support. The only way to slow the progression of the disease is through exercise.
The annual “Walk in the Woods for Parkinson’s” will be held Sunday, September 18 to raise funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and to provide an exercise program for local people with Parkinson’s.
For more information about the support group, contact Susan Pelchat at 860-489-1677.
