Budleigh’s Suze refuses to look down as she tackles abseiling challenge

 26 October 2016    Daniel Wilkins

A Budleigh Salterton woman has taken on a 150-ft abseil to raise funds for the charity which has helped her family.

Suze Lamour, of Knowle Village, was part of a group of fundraisers who took on the challenge at Sandford Quarry, Somerset.
In the last three years, her dad Phil Davies, 71, her aunt and a close family friend have all been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
She raised more than £1,500 for Parkinson’s UK, which has provided a number of activities for her father, who was diagnosed with the disease two-and-a-half years ago.
“Everyone told me don’t look down and I stuck to that,” Suze said.
“Once I got to the edge, I really enjoyed it. With all the support, I really felt I could do this.”
Members of her family were cheering her on as she made her way down the rock face.
Suze was supported by her husband, Andy, her three children, Josie, Jack and Pheobe, her dad Phil and mum Ginny.
Her sister, Becky Davies, travelled down from Cardiff to support her as well.
Suze said that, after taking on the challenge for the first time, she would be open to doing something like that again.
The event was organised by Parkinson’s UK, which raises funds for specialist nurses to help those who have the disease.
Suze added: “It’s a brilliant charity that relies heavily on donations. I wanted to raise money for them.
“The Sandford Quarry abseil organised by Parkinson’s UK leapt out at me and I signed up to take the plunge.
“Abseiling for the first time from 150-ft down a quarry rock face was a big challenge, but with so much wonderful support behind me, it was a fantastic, exhilarating experience.”
