Museum supporters raise funds through sponsored walk

in Community News

HASLEMERE Museum supporters Nicholas Harding and his son Matthew clocked up 216 miles on a sponsored walk to raise £2,400. The money they raised by completing Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk from St Bees on the Cumbrian coast to Robin Hood’s Bay on the North Sea, will be shared with Parkinson’s UK.
Mr Harding, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease earlier this year, said: “Initially, this was going to be a walking holiday and sponsorship had not crossed my mind. But having spoken to friends and family about my intention they really wanted to sponsor me, so I decided if I could raise money for charity at the same time, then why not. I joined the museum over 18 months ago and have since discovered just how much takes place, from a full programme of events and exhibitions to school visits, talks, and lectures - not to mention the every day running of the museum – so I really wanted them to benefit too.”
Museum curator Julia Tanner said: “We are so grateful to Nicholas for supporting us with this fantastic fundraising initiative.
“Funds are vital to ensure the museum’s ongoing survival and safeguard it for future generations, and the money Nick has raised will go towards achieving our mission.”
